Feelings tend to be what bring people to therapy. Feeling too much of something - depression, anxiety, grief... Feeling not enough of something - purpose, spontaneity, connection.
The way we engage with life and how we come to know our self is through feelings, but having them can also be challenging and confusing. To make things harder, the strategies we use to solve problems in the outside world don't tend to work when it comes to our inner emotional worlds.
Getting support in learning how to have a different relationship with your feelings is an invaluable skill - one that can be life changing.
Humans are beautifully complex creatures... sometimes overwhelmingly so.
Without a framework for navigating the relationship between thinking, emotions, body sensations, and behavioural drives - we can end up feeling stuck.
The work we’ll do together will help bring your awareness to the way these systems work together.
Rather than continually being 'in your head' trying to think your way out of whatever is going on for you, you'll begin to experience yourself as more embodied and see your current state as making perfect sense given the circumstances you have found yourself in over time.
We aren't broken, we often just have adaptive habits that worked at one point in time but could now do with some updating or relaxing.
This won't be about digging up past pain and re-telling stories for the sake of it, we will be working in the present moment with whatever is alive in you at the time. Drawing upon the latest neuroscience, you'll learn effective strategies for calming your nervous system, bringing regulation to overwhelming emotional states, and respecting the intelligence already present within your system.
